Will there be more books?
That’s the plan! In total, we visited 43 states during our travels in the campervan (a.k.a ‘Dusty’) so we have lots of inspiration. Though we are leaning toward one state in particular already…
What was your favorite part of working on this book?
Two things come to mind right away. The first has to do with my mom. During my childhood, she would talk on-and-off again about someday writing a children’s book. So getting to do this with her help and support was a dream come true for both of us. Second was getting to revisit our memories on the road (I’m nostalgic!). Because for the illustrator, Dave, I put together a bunch of photos for inspiration and it was a lot of fun going through them and getting to share them with him.
What is Cooper’s adoption story?
We were talking about adopting another dog (we had one already who we miss dearly and was the greatest big brother to Cooper) but I was less convinced than my husband, Matt, that it was the right time for us to do so. But as fate would have it, SPCA was at PetSmart on what we thought was going to be a normal errand day for Matt while I was at work. He called me and asked if I could take my lunch break to go meet a puppy. When I got there, I spotted them in one of the aisles before they saw me. Cooper was nervous and backing away from the people passing by toward someplace safe….toward Matt. I knew before I even made it down the aisle to them that he was going to become a part of our family. He was meant to be.
